Pulse Blogger: Holding faith;Finding hope

Most Patriotic Nigerian?

"The recent happenings in the world over has left me feeling helpless and distraught over the pain and anguish people go through time and time again".

When happiness becomes a thing of the past and life's journey seems to end in a bleak vast, I pause to ponder on what to keep me afloat in this sudden nothingness and surreptitious state of mind.

Let's not look too far but at our country; Nigeria, our fatherland is being ravished by one blood bath or the other, holding the citizens to ransom, unsure of what calamity to expect in the nearest future.

From the Dapchi school girls, to the herdsmen attack in Benue, to the massacre in Jos, Lagos and Niger states weren't left out of the fiery furnace that ended the lives of many. From the beginning of the year to this moment, everyone has been left in utter shock as they soak in the aftermath of these, wondering how long horrible situations will last.

When life comes at the mercy of jeopardy and we've no other option than to have faith for a greater tomorrow, living day to day, hoping for better things to spring forth. What then is Faith?

Faith

Faith is confidence or trust in a person or thing, a belief not based on proof. Faith involves intellectual assent to a set of facts and trust in those facts. Faith is based on the idea, that whatever the outcome is, it is for the better. Faith is a complete trust or confidence in something. For some people, it's a name, while others believe it's just another phenomenon but one they're yet to experience.

Holding on to faith can be somewhat abstract, it's perceived to be a religious terminology. However, it's quite significant especially at times like this.

Hope

Hope is an action predicated on uncertainty. It is a word that describes the act of being unsure about one's circumstances, and essentially, wishing for an outcome conducive to one's desires. Hope is a peaceful assurance that something that hasn’t happened yet will indeed happen.

Hope must involve something that is as yet unseen: “Hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?” (Romans 8:24).

Hope is an optimistic attitude of mind based on an expectation or desire.

Hope is a confident expectation that naturally stems from faith. "Faith says it is so now, and Hope says in the future it could happen".

The Irony

It's easy to talk about faith and all, but when the present circumstances say otherwise we've to pause and retrace our steps back, in order to figure out what went wrong. It's okay to be philosophical and talk about a given phenomenon but it would be foolhardy to continue that way especially when our very existence is being threatened.

I listen to people talk about how life can be hard, it's actually true . We all know life doesn't play a fair game,  that doesn't mean we should fold our arms while our lives are cut short by forces "Unseen". It's easy to blame the government, but we all have our parts to play on this stage. You can choose to roll with the tide or give it all it takes in order to survive.

It just might take a little longer for the scenes to turn out fine because a successful play is a result of consistent and relevant hard-wok, sacrifice and practice.

The Patriot

What do you have to say in defence? Blame it on Religious Bigotry, Economic meltdown, Nepotism, Bureaucracy and what have you? The ultimate question is what are you doing personally to ensure life is better for the person next door? You can ignore the happenings around you but you're affected by them nonetheless. You can only run but for how long?

Nigeria is our home, our fatherland, she needs us. This is not the time to relocate or find another resting place, this is the time to show our truest sense of patriotism. This is the time to put a foot down and pledge our allegiance to our nation. This is the time to stay hopeful, take deliberate and positive steps towards making Nigeria the land of our dreams.

This is the time to get your PVC, the little you can do to purge our nation of this parasitic system. This is a time to say NO to being used as political saboteurs, to evolve a new trend of upright and charismatic youths.

A time to find hope in a better future for the upcoming generation and to hold on to faith despite our bleeding hearts

This is a time to be... Your time starts now.
