Poland 0 Vs 1 Nigeria: How Super Eagles players rated in friendly win

Victor Moses

Pulse Sports rate the Super Eagles players' performance in the 1-0 win over Poland.

On a slightly cold night in Wroclaw, Super Eagles needed just a Victor Moses’ goal from the penalty spot to beat Poland 1-0 in an international friendly game.

It was a gritty win in a very cagey game which had few clear-cut chances.

But how did the Super Eagles players fare in this game?

Francis Uzoho (Goalkeeper)

Francis Uzoho had a nervy start in Super Eagles 1-0 win over Poland. He mistimed a couple of box in his box but he managed to get over it to have a good game.

Made a couple of saves and communicated well with his defenders. He was seen shouting at a teammate who had allowed a Poland player to get on a ball from a freekick.

Managed to keep a clean sheet.

6/10

Shehu Abdullahi (Right-Back)

Abdullahi was impressive again for the Super Eagles of Nigeria against Poland. He was strong in tackles and tracked runners in the box very well.

He, however, committed a host of silly fouls and offered nothing going forward.

6/10

William Troost-Ekong (Central defender)

Super Eagles best player of the night, William Troost-Ekong showed lots of quality in defence, especially against Robert Lewandowski.

His position was good and he had enough pace to recover anytime he was out of position. Didn’t give Robert Lewandowski anytime on the ball also.

8/10

Leon Balogun (Central defence)

Did a good job in Super Eagles defence and helped in keeping a clean sheet. Was very good in the air but was caught out of position a couple of times,.

6/10

Brian Idowu (Left-back)

Had a very quiet game but also did his job. Managed the left side of defence very well but struggled to help the Super Eagles in attack.

5/10

Wilfred Ndidi (Defensive midfield)

Trust Wilfred Ndidi to always work hard and put in his best. Went about his job, defended well and deep to help Troost-Ekong and Balogun.

Good job from the Leicester City man.

7/10

Joel Obi (Central midfield)

Back in the Super Eagles for the time since 2014, Obi put in a good shift in midfield. He was however not creative enough with the ball and could not retain possession.

6/10

Kelechi Iheanacho (Attacking midfield)

Got into some goalscoring position earlier but generally had a game to forget. Couldn’t cope under pressure and was unsettled by the Polish.

Was poor in possession and failed in connecting the midfield with the attack.

5/10

Alex Iwobi (Forward)

Started brightly but quickly fizzled out of the game. Poland pressed hard and he could not hold on to the ball to make meaningful runs into the opposition box.

Victor Moses (Forward)

Overcame a slow start to still manage to be Super Eagles man. Failed to make an impression earlier in the game and everything seems not to be working for him.

Credit to him however for trying and trying again, until he got the penalty from which he scored.

7/10

Odion Ighalo (Striker)

Couldn't do much and with little or no supply, he was isolated up front for most of the game. He, however, worked hard to hold up the ball well.

6/10

Substitutes

Ahmed Musa (Forward)

Came on in the 59th minute to replace the ineffective Iwobi and troubled the Polish with his pace. Launched some counter-attack and looked very lively.

3/10

Ogenyi Onazi (Central midfield)

Was strong and solid when he came on and made some runs into the box of Poland. His final balls, however, were very poor.

3/10

Kenneth Omeruo (Central defence)

Was introduced in the 74th minute but didn’t have much to do. He did well to remain focus and helped Nigeria to keep a clean sheet.

3/10

Tyronne Ebuehi (right-back)

Starting playing from the 78th minute and continued from where Abdullai stopped. Tackled well and he made his man didn’t beat him.

3/10

John Ogu (Midfield)

Came in for another ineffective player Iheanacho and managed to help keep the shape of the Super Eagles as they defended their one-goal lead.

3/10

Moses Simon (Forward)

Came in very late on and didn’t have much of an impact to be rated.
