Manchester Derby: Full details of dressing room bust-up at Old Trafford

Manchester United and Manchester City players

United and City players were involved in a dressing room scuffle after the Manchester derby.

Full details have emerged from the dressing room bust-up that occurred after the Manchester Derby at Old Trafford on Sunday, December 10.

Manchester United were beaten at home by Manchester City 2-1 in the top of the table clash on Sunday.

After the game, a huge scuffle occurred in the Old Trafford's tunnel and dressing room between the two teams.

Cause of the fight

According to Daily Mail, Manchester City players celebrated wildly in the tunnel and dressing room after the win.

Loud music and noise came out from the away team dressing room which infuriated Manchester United players.

City were celebrating like they'd won the league,” a source said in the report.

They were the better team and deserved to win but you can't start behaving like that.”

Manchester United players confronted the City stars and exchange of insults in Portuguese and Spanish ensued.

Jose Mourinho was said to have charged into the Manchester City dressing room to reprimand them over their wild celebrations and was challenged by City goalkeeper Ederson.

A heated argument between the two followed as Mourinho told the Brazilian goalkeeper to show respect and also accused him of time-wasting during the game.

Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia, Marcus Rashford, Axel Tuanzebe, Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw rushed out to support Mourinho after their manager was hit in the head by a bottle thrown from the Manchester City dressing room.

Jose went absolutely ballistic when the bottle hit him, there was steam coming out of his ears, and then everyone waded in,” a source is also quoted to say in the report.

Michael Carrick was said to have tried to calm the situation but was also head screaming “Show some f***ing respect” at the City players.

The players were pushing each other up and down, with everyone trying to find the room to punch one another," another source said in the report.

City coach Mikel Arteta suffered a cut to his forehead and was spotted with four stitches during an outing with friends on Sunday evening.

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has been accused of also throwing a water bottle.

City midfielder Fernandinho was believed to have received a punch during the brawl.

City captain Vincent Kompany and defender Nicolas Otamendi were heavily involved while the likes of Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva watched from a distance.

Fabian Delph and his teammate Kevin De Bruyne were giving a live interview to Sky Sports during the altercation.

FA’s Action

The FA have waded into the matter and have asked both clubs to send in their own reports on the issue before 6 pm on Wednesday, December 13.

Greater Manchester Police are however not taking further actions on the issue as officers at the scene didn’t see any need to.

Referees in charge of the game led by Michael Oliver did not see the incident as they were inside their dressing room which was guarded.

The dressing room scuffle was not included in Oliver’s match report to the FA.
