Wahome Gakuru: Uhuru's promise to Nyeri people at Gakuru's funeral

The President intends to honor the late Governor in a major way.

President Kenyatta has announced that he will name the annual marathon held in Nyeri county, in honor of the county’s late Governor, Dr Wahome Gakuru. 
President Uhuru who was speaking at Dr Gakuru’s burial on Saturday stated that he would ensure that the Rurung’u stadium in Nyeri is completed by early next year so that the marathon can take place.
He further stated that he would work hand in hand with the succeeding governor Mutahi Kahiga to ensure that Dr Wahome’s vision for Nyeri is seen to the very end. 
The Head of State said, “ I ensure you we will work together to ensure the stadium is completed on time so that the marathon which will be named after the late governor takes place.”
Dr Gakuru was involved in a tragic accident last Tuesday morning when his car rammed into a barrier along Thika road at Makenji, Muranga County.
Leaders from all over the country joined the president in supporting the Gakuru family during this trying moment.
This is the second governor the county has lost in 2017. His predecessor Hon Nderitu Gachagua died in London where he was receiving treatment.
