The Plus-size fashion week Africa was birthed out of the need to stop the stigmatization and body shaming of the plus-sized woman.

The organizers of Plus-size Fashion Week Africa (PFWA), held a press conference today August 8, 2017 to announce a first of its kind fashion run­way show that highlights plus size models and apparels.

The event kicked-Off with the publicist for the PFWA Yetty Ogunnubi introducing the Show's Creative Director/Producer Mr Sola Oyebade who spoke on what it takes to put together the show of this calibre (magnitude). The show and the modelling competition. Also at the press conference was the project coordinator Miss Olubukola Comfort Akanbi who spoke on the journey so far and what to expect at the event.

Plus size influencers present at the event including Taje prest, Adekunbi Kuye and Titi also spoke on their support for the event and how plus size women should wear whatever dress they are comfortable with and ignore what most people say about curvy women. They also encouraged women to love and appreciate their body.  Celebrity photographer Ade Plumptre also encouraged photographers to work more with plus size women and stop been lazy.

The event is set to hold on Saturday, 2 September 2017 at the Main Banquet Hall of the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event will feature runway shows, exhibi­tions, business talks, fashion enterprise on skills acquisi­tion as well as diet talks. The PFWA is aimed at maximizing the growing fo­cus of the plus size fashion industry and also the pro­motion of the African cul­ture. This maiden edition is themed: “Celebrating the real African woman”.

It is billed to attract over 20 designers who will take the stage and exhibition booths to showcase their designs and fashion pieces specifi­cally made for the plus sized woman.

Asides the fashion show another major highlight of the event is the search for “Af­rica’s next plus-sized model”. Successful participants at the auditions will grace the stage at the PFWA and will also be signed, trained and developed by JPKingdom’s modelling di­vision, Golden Curvy Agency.

International modelling exposure will also be got­ten through Isis Modelling Agency Africa. The plus size modelling competition audi­tion will hold on Saturday, 8 July 2017 Villa Angelia Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos from 11am.
