Stoke City Hand Long-term Contract To Ramadan Sobhi

Stoke winger Ramadan Sobhi has signed a new five-year contractwith the club.

The 20-year-old Egypt international only joined the Potters last summer from Al Ahly in his homeland but he impressed in his 19 appearances during his maiden season and has been rewarded with an improved long-term deal.

Ramadan Sobhi told the club’s official website: ‘I received a friendly and good welcome from everyone at the Club, including my teammates and the management team in my first season. Thanks to the fans for the support they gave me throughout last season.

‘I’m delighted to be signing this contract. I’m proud to be part of this Club and I’m determined to repay Stoke City for the faith they showed in me in signing me at just 19.

‘Last season was good but I am confident that the best is yet to come. Shukran.’

Sobhi can expect to play a more prominent role this season following the £24million sale of Marko Arnautovic to West Ham, with Mark Hughes opting so far to reinvest the money on his defence.

‘There’s no doubting that Ramadan is an exciting young talent,’ Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes added.

‘The first year in a new league and it’s fair to say new culture is always going to be challenging for a player. However, Ramadan has adapted to the league and country very quickly and showed that he has enormous potential.

‘We’re delighted to have secured him on a contract until at least 2022.’
