Stoke City Agree Deal To Sign Porto Defender Bruno Martins Indi

Stoke City are close to completing the signing of defender Bruno Martins Indi from Porto in a cut-price deal.

Last month, it looked like Crystal Palace were favourites to sign him, even though he spent last season on loan at the Bet365 Stadium – Stoke pulled out of negotiations, because they weren’t prepared to meet Porto’s demands for a fee over £10m.

Now, we’ve been told the two clubs have shaken hands on a price of around £7.25m, and Martins Indi could sign for Stoke within the next few days.

That will end a long-running saga after Stoke declared their desire to re-sign Bruno Martins Indi well before the end of last season.

That followed a hugely successful season-long loan for Martins Indi here in the Potteries.

He will return to a club now boasting much greater competition at centre half, however, following the recent acquisition of Chelsea centre half Kurt Zouma on a season-long loan.

But Martins Indi’s arrival does strengthen the option for playing three centre halves and wing backs with skipper Ryan Shawcross and the ever adaptable Geoff Cameron also in the mix.
