Pope Francis: Catholic leader speaks out against transgender children

Pope says the fact that kids are allowed to choose their own gender is “terrible"

The Pontiff has angered the LGBT Catholics with his comments on children who are allowed to choose their gender.

Pope Francis doesn't support transgender amongst kids.

He spoke his mind before a group of Polish bishops during World Youth Day last week, Christian Post reports.

According to the Catholic leader, the fact that kids are allowed to choose their own gender is “terrible." He also that this new “gender theory” is “exact opposite” of God’s creation.

The pope blamed the notion that children can determine their biological sex for themselves on textbooks supplied by "persons and institutions who donate money," which he called an "ideological colonizing" backed by "very influential countries."

In his words, “Today, children are taught this at school: that everyone can choose their own sex. And why do they teach this? Because the books come from those people and institutions who give money.

"We are living at a time when humankind as the image of God is being annihilated."

According to him, this comes from a “lack of appreciation of humankind’s God-given dignity.”

This is not the first time the Pontiff has aired his views on gender theory.

In his second papal encyclical titled ‘Laudato si’, he wrote on the desire to “cancel out sexual difference.” He also connected “gender theory” with economic exploitation.

He noted that “thinking we enjoy absolute power over our own bodies turns, often subtly, into thinking that we enjoy absolute power over creation.”

According to The Washington Post, this document was published in June 2015.

Pope Francis’ views have been reportedly supported by his predecessor, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

DailyMail reports that the current pontiff said that he has discussed the gender issue with Benedict, adding that they both share the same belief on this matter.

"Speaking with Pope Benedict, who is well, and has a clear mind, he was telling me: 'Holiness, this is the epoch of sin against God the Creator.'

He's intelligent! God created man and woman, God created the world this way, this way, this way, and we are doing the opposite," he said.

He ended with this: "We must think about what Pope Benedict said -- "It's the epoch of sin against God the Creator."

Former Pope Benedict is currently leaving at Vatican, where he has been since retiring in 2013.

The views, shared by both Pontiffs, have offended DignityUSA, an organization for LGBT Catholics, The Washington Post.

Marianne Duddy-Burke, the group’s executive director, made it known in a statement that the Pope’s language is “lamentable,” adding that it “puts lives at risk.”

She said, “What many, including Pope Francis, do not yet understand is that people do not ‘choose’ their genders. A gender is assigned at birth, and some people discover that they were incorrectly classified.”

Burke ended the statement with a plea to people to change their mentality on gender like most have towards sexual orientation.
