Osinbajo Appoints New Solicitor General | Sends Delegation To Anambra Over Ozubulu Attack

The Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has approved the appointment of Dayo Apata, as the new Solicitor General of the Federation.

The appointment was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday, August 11, 2017.

Apata served as the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice in Ekiti between 2010 and 2014, when Kayode Fayemi was Governor. He has served as legal adviser national planning ministry and also held several sensitive assignments.

Apata served in the legal unit of Nigeria customs service as a prosecuting officer (NYSC).

He joined the federal civil service and was posted to the ministry of justice as legal officer.

He worked with the Eastern Zone of Nigeria customs service as an assistant legal adviser, prosecuting and defending customs cases in the eastern zone.

Meanwhile, the acting president has sent a five-man Federal Government delegation to Anambra State to visit and condole with the government and people of the state over last Sunday’s attack on worshippers at the St. Philips Catholic Church in Ofufe-Amakwa, Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.

A statement by Mr. Osinbajo’s spokesperson, Laolu Akande, said the delegation is made up of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole; Foreign Affairs Minister,Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Jibril; and the Minister of State for Education,  Anthony Anwuka.

“During the visit, the delegation will present a condolence letter from the Acting President Osinbajo on behalf of the government and people of Nigeria to Governor Willie Obiano.

In the letter, Mr. Osinbajo extends deep commiserations to the families, friends of the victims and the Ozubulu community on the death of their sons and daughters and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured still in the hospital.

The Acting President condemned in very strong terms the atrocious and dastardly act which has brought sorrow to many innocent families and, has rightly provoked widespread condemnation.

It would be recalled, the Catholic Church had confirmed at least 13 deaths from the incident.
