NPFL: Court remands three in prison for brutalising match officials

Mohammed Isa, Hamisu Mohammed and Yola Ishaya have all been arrested by the police.

A Sharia court in Bauchi has remanded three men who have been charged for with brutalising match officials in a Matchday 33 fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Match officials who handled the game between Wikki Tourist and Enugu Rangers on Sunday, August 6 were injured after an attack from some of the home fans.

Mohammed Isa, 35, Hamisu Mohammed, 30 and Yola Ishaya aka Chara, 24 all of Wunty Street in Bauchi were all arrested by the police.

 

According to a statement by the League Management Company (LMC) who are organisers of the NPFL, Chara was identified as the suspect who threw an object at the second assistant referee that led to halting of the match the first half.

The other two, Isa & Hamisu allegedly attacked other officials at the end of the game.

The three suspects later appeared before the Upper Shariya Court where they pleaded not guilty.

 

Justice L Yakubu of the Upper Sharia Court No 1 adjourned the case to Thursday, August 31 and directed that the three accused be kept in prison.

Popular sports journalist with the Twitter handle @PoojaMedia had shared photos of some injuries sustained by the referees on Sunday.

The game ended 1-1. Bright Silas put Enugu Rangers in the lead in the 15th minute before Chinedu Onyelonu levelled for the host in the 31st minute.
