A 25-year-old driver, Abdullahi Yakubu, charged with the theft of a borehole engine, was on Friday remanded in prison custody by a Kano Magistrates’ Court.
Yakubu, who lives in Dala Quarters, Kano, is standing trial on a one-count charge.
The prosecutor, Insp. Yusuf Sale, told the court that one Mustafa Musa of Kabuga Quarters, Kano, reported the matter to the Rijiyar Zaki Police Division, Kano, on August 7.
Sale said that on that date at about 3.30 p.m., the defendant went to the complainant’s house situated at Kabuga Quarters and stole his borehole engine.
He said that the defendant was arrested with the stolen engine the value of which had yet to be determined.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.
The Senior Magistrate, Aminu Fagge, ordered the remand of the defendant in prison custody and adjourned the matter to August 31, for a review of facts and sentencing.
