IAAF World Championships: Team Nigeria athletes receive N500, 000 each in allowances

The 14 athletes received N36, 400 per day for 14 days, totalling N509, 000 for each athlete.

Nigeria's Minister of Sports Solomon Dalung has revealed that Team Nigeria athletes have received N509, 000 ($1,400) each for their camp allowances for the 2017 IAAF World Champions.

Team Nigeria have several athletes competing at the IAAF World Champions currently holding in London.

According to Dalung, the 14 athletes received N36, 400 ($100) per day for 14 days, totalling N509, 000 ($1,400) for each athlete except Edose Ibadin, who left camp earlier with N291, 200 ($800).

“It was necessary to give the athletes their dues to encourage their performance. We will continue to support our sports men and women and pay them all their entitlements,” Dalung said.

 

Again we have paid the athletes all their allowances as a responsibility to encourage them. These athletes are our pride irrespective of their performance.

“We have settled all their camp allowances, and will also ginger them to good performances in the remaining events.”

President of Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Ibrahim Shehu Gusau has confirmed the payments.

thanked the Minister for making it possible for the athletes to be paid.

Team Nigeria are yet to win any medal at the championship.

Nigeria’s Women’s 4x400m relay team- the quartet of Patience Okon-George, Glory Nathaniel, Emerald Egwim and Yinka Ajai will be running in the final on Sunday, August 13.
