Wife beater

The accused was slammed with two-count charges of assault and causing grievous bodily harm.

In Lagos, a fight between a man, Igwe Dike and his wife, Nkiru Egbo has led to serious injuries for their 9-month-old baby who fell into fire while its mother was attempting to escape from her husband.

This was followed by Dike's arraignment at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for two counts of assault and causing grievous bodily harm, Daily Post reports.

The drama came about after the accused caught Egbo having sex with another man in a vehicle which led to an uncontrollable anger.

The injury to the baby occurred while he was trying to discipline his wife whom he beat severally with a plank.

Speaking before court magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi, the accused mentioned that Egbo's promiscuity began when he lost his job.

In his attempt to confront the man who he caught with his wife, he disclosed that the latter prevented him from doing so by engaging him physically in a bid to take the plank from him.

He however met the opposition with his superior strength causing her to receive bodily harm which led her to report him to the police.

“On the day of the incident, at about 12 .30 am, I came back to meet another man making love to my wife inside a vehicle.

“I immediately picked up a stick, opened the door of the vehicle and hit the man on the head with it.

“My wife took the stick from me and while we were dragging it, the man escaped.

“I later overpowered her and beat her mercilessly with the stick.

“She immediately ran towards where our baby was laid and picked him up. When she tried to run away with the baby, she fell and the baby fell into the fire,” Dike told the court.
