Diego Costa To Formally Hand In Transfer Request At Chelsea

Diego Costa’s lawyer has told Spanish news agency EFE that he and his client are going to “formally request a transfer” away from Stamford Bridge.

“We are going to use all legal mechanisms to hold Chelsea accountable for this behaviour, making it possible for Diego Costa to leave,” said Ricardo Cardoso.

Sources close to the player have said  today that Atletico Madrid is the most likely destination for Costa, although nothing is yet agreed.

Asked if Costa could yet stay at Chelsea, our sources suggested that although nothing is impossible, it is likely the Spain international will leave.

Costa has been at Chelsea since joining from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2014, and despite success on the pitch in the Premier League, he has failed to settle into life in London.

He admitted earlier in the summer that he wanted to go back to the Vicente Calderon, but his future remains up in the air after Diego Simeone’s hint that the move may have to wait until their transfer ban ends in January.

‘Diego Costa? If he comes in January… We can’t say anything about that yet,’ the Argentine was quoted earlier this week.
