Bridal Tips: Everything you need to know about bridal trains

Everything brides need to know about bridal trains

How to determine which bridal train is perfect for you.

A bridal train is that extra length of fabric that extends from the back of your wedding dress and sweeps behind you as you walk down the aisle on your big day.

It's usually part of the skirt and could be detachable which makes it better to move around when you no longer want to be encumbered by its volume around you.

The common train styles include:

1. Sweep

This is small, compared to other elaborate trains. The sweep train is just around six inches longer than the rest of the skirt, a sweep train is a subtle way to add an accent to a wedding gown’s skirt instead of leaving it just at floor length.

2. Chapel

This is the most common choice for brides and is between 12 and 18 inches long and is the most common choice for brides.

It adds just enough sass and drama to an A-line gown without being too extra.

3. Cathedral

At 22 or more inches long, they are dramatic and overflowing AF. They look best on ball gowns and A-line dresses.

4. Royal or Monarch

To get an idea, check out Kate Middleton's wedding dress when she married Prince William in 2011.

This is the longest option and extends as much as a yard or more on the floor.

It is the gorgeous one that requires all the assistance the bride can get to move around. Even flower girls have to come around and hold up so the bride can move around.

Fun fact: Kate Middleton's dress had nine feet of train and Princess Diana's had 25!
