In a statement issued on Sunday by the Army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, the Army said the operation was carried out by troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE deployed at Forward Operation Base Mainok.

Usman further disclosed that the insurgents were ferrying logistics items to their colleagues when they were caught in the ambush.

He said that two weapons, motorcycles, Jerry cans and grounded guinea corn were recovered from them during the operation.

“Similarly, troops of 151 Battalion, 21 Brigade Nigerian Army, on routine clearing of bushes to aid unhindered movement of troops discovered multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The IEDs were connected together laid on the shoulder of the road at a suspected terrorist ambush site in Banki Junction near Bama.

“The troops successfully disconnected and recovered them,” Usman said.

This is coming just days after three suicide bombers were killed by the Nigerian military at Simari area of Maiduguri, capital of Borno state.
