Paolo Di Canio has backed Juventus’ decision to sell veteran defender, Leonardo Bonucci, as it will restore harmony in the dressing room.
Bonucci is leaving the Serie A giants for their rivals AC Milan, in a deal believed to have cost £42 million.
Di Canio believes it was the right move, as the Italy international was no longer getting along with Allegri.
“Was I surprised by the transfer? In some ways, yes. In some ways, no, because obviously what happened last season to Bonucci with the manager and with the club – at a club like Juventus this can’t happen,” Di Canio told Goal.
“They can sacrifice even the top footballer because they want a very nice atmosphere. They want a team that stays together, a unit.
“You can have some problems sometimes but if the problem is big, then you can sacrifice any player. This year was the right time [to leave] for Bonucci and for the club, but I was surprised that he ended up at AC Milan.”
